Court of the People
DAY 1: Oaths and Opening Statements

The following is an edited version of the full transcript of the proceedings of the trial to determine whether or not the defendant is responsible for numerous crimes allegedly committed by the FOA. Only the speech of those actively involved in the court proceedings have been included (except when a statement requires further explanation).

Birmingham: *nods*
Aramina: *nods*

*gated back to Yew*

Sage Arthur: All rise!
Sage Arthur: All rise!
Sage Arthur: The Court of the People is about to begin.
Wyrmschlacter: The court will come to order
Wyrmschlacter: Are the attorneys all here?
Sage Arthur: Prosecution is here
Wyrmschlacter: Is the defendant scheduled to be present?
Wyrmschlacter: Very well, the prosecution will make his opening statements
Sage Arthur: Thank you your honors
Sage Arthur: Why are we here in this courtroom today? What could possibly be the
Sage Arthur: reason to conduct such a trial? What crimes could have been so severe,
Sage Arthur: so heinous, so dreadful as to warrant such action?
Sage Arthur: The answer to these questions are quite simple. The crimes of the FOA
Sage Arthur: leader are the reason that this court had to be created. It is the
Sage Arthur: reason that these judges were called upon to make a ruling in what is
Sage Arthur: perhaps one of the most important trials of our time. The fate of our
Sage Arthur: dear land could rest in their hands. What will become of it if the FOA
Sage Arthur: are allowed to roam free upon its soil? For if that happens we will all
Sage Arthur: surely be lost. The courts must make sure that such is not the case.
Sage Arthur: *pauses*
Sage Arthur: The prosecution has two tasks at hand. Upon close examination and
Sage Arthur: logical reasoning, however, these two tasks are quite simple. The first
Sage Arthur: is to prove to the court, beyond a *reasonable* doubt that the FOA was
Sage Arthur: responsible for directly violating the law on numerous occasions. The
Sage Arthur: second part is to prove that the defendant is the leader of this cult,
Sage Arthur: known as the FOA. For if we can show that the defendant is the FOA's
Sage Arthur: leader then there will be no choice except for the courts to find the
Sage Arthur: defendant quilty of the crimes of the FOA. And these crimes are not
Sage Arthur: to be taken lightly. There are numerous counts of murder, in the case
Sage Arthur: of Hartham, Sir Duquelle, and Sage Winslow. In addition to this there
Sage Arthur: is the kidnapping of Crawworth. A third charge against the defendant is
Sage Arthur: the impersonation of a government official while impersonating Sage
Sage Arthur: Winslow. In additon, the FOA have disrupted trade, commited high
Sage Arthur: treason against the state, destroyed property (killing one miner) when
Sage Arthur: they caused earthquakes across the land, and the possession of
Sage Arthur: dangerous contraband blackrock. The most important charge is the fact
Sage Arthur: that the FOA attempted to destroy civilization as we know it by casting
Sage Arthur: or should I say trying to cast
Wyrmschlacter: One moement couselor
Grunk Half Orc: uh oh
Wyrmschlacter: Grunk be silent or you will be removed
Wyrmschlacter: Thank you
Sage Arthur: the spell of Armageddon. There are numerous other minor charges which
Wyrmschlacter: Continue
Sage Arthur: are being overlooked at this time so that the court can focus its
Sage Arthur: attention on these serious offenses.
Sage Arthur: *pauses*
Wyrmschlacter: Thank you counselor
Wyrmschlacter: is that all for your opening?
Sage Arthur: wait
Sage Arthur: more
Wyrmschlacter: Continue then
Sage Arthur: The prosecution will present to the courts direct evidence linking the
Sage Arthur: FOA to these crimes, as well as to show that the defendant is the
Sage Arthur: leader of the FOA. In addition, there is an enormous amount of
Sage Arthur: circumstancial evidence which will bolster the case made by the
Sage Arthur: prosecution. The defense may try to portray the defendant as a gentle
Sage Arthur: man, but do not be fooled and when the court sees the evidence they
Sage Arthur: will discover, in fact, how cruel and morbid this man truly is.
Sage Arthur: Thank you your honors.
Adunaphel: *nods*
Aramina: *nods*
Wyrmschlacter: *nods*

You see: Pander

Wyrmschlacter: Now the defense will give his opening statements
Pander: I would like to say Hail to the judges for listening, and the crowd outside.
Adunaphel: silence
Adunaphel: let him speak
Pander: Thank you for coming here.
Pander: A first point I would like to make about the innocence of the FOA Leader is that
Wyrmschlacter: Continue counselor
Wyrmschlacter: this is not a social gathering
Pander: he is held under false, fraudulent, and illegal means.
Pander: What crimes did they commit?
Pander: Only one.
Pander: The crime of making Lord British fear for his throne.
Pander: The people were rising in hordes,
Pander: joining the up and coming group of friends called Followers of the Apocolypse.
Pander: Many have said the name is actually a sign that they wish to destory the world,
Pander: But can this not be said of other, just as peaceful guild?
Pander: A scary name starts scary rumours,
Pander: and this benign guild,
Pander: This peaceful guild,
Pander: Was accosted by the insanely delusional and inprisoned man, named
Pander: Sage Winslow
Pander: of being
Wyrmschlacter: Grunk, last warning
Pander: A dangrous...
Pander: fearful group.
Pander: Also, to fruther these lies leveled against them,
Adunaphel: *sigh*
Adunaphel: grunk...
Pander: Are the large and powerful spins doctors under Lord British's helm.
Adunaphel: please quiet down
Pander: Writes often place a "SUPPOSEDLY BY FOA" next to ANYTHING deemed bad.
Pander: Bad Crops?
Pander: FOA!
Pander: Sunken boat?
Pander: FOA!~
Pander: Blame FOa!
Adunaphel: grunk....
Pander: It's these falsehoods perpretrated by the writers who dip their quills in acid,
Pander: for the good of Lord British
Pander: that show how our king protects his throne:
Pander: Not only by deliborate force
Pander: But by the subtle means of propangda.
Pander: One must wonder waht society is coming to
Pander: When a group
Pander: guilty of only being a strong, well to do group of men with the POTENTIAL
Pander: not the intent
Adunaphel: grunk this is not the local orc fort, this is a courtroom
Pander: but the POTENTIAL
Adunaphel: please be silent
Pander: to overthrow our Lord British are branded criminals of crimes they had no hand in.
Pander: For example.
Pander: the attack on Britain led by G'Splat and G'thunk was proclaimed by British-run new
Pander: spapers to be likely led by the FoA.
Pander: Have they any direct proof?
Pander: Who can say that myabe a guard, loyal to British, offered money to stage the attack,
Pander: Hire the trolls,
Pander: In order to frame Foa?
Pander: This would be an attempt to flare up teh public opinion in favor the unpopular
Pander: Lord British,
Pander: In an effort to assert his command over us all.
Pander: Who, in this country dedicated to freedom,
Pander: can place blame on FoA based upon FACT!
Pander: And not public opinion?
Pander: All actions that were leveled in harm against Finth, Crowwarth, or any other guards
Pander: Could have been easily been acts done by any brigand,
Pander: and not just FOA.
Pander: Yet charges were against FOA.
Pander: Ujust,
Pander: Unjust,
Pander: Unfounde,d
Pander: leveled by Lord British himself,
Pander: "FOA is a criminal convention"
Pander: Hunt them down.
Pander: No habeus Corpus
Pander: No freedom.
Pander: Just simple Capture them hurt them bring them to justice Idealogy.
Pander: Justice...what a word.
Pander: A word used to stir up people to do battle against evil,
Pander: Also a charged word used to do battle aginst
Pander: personal foes.
Wyrmschlacter: Ahem, sir, please remember that you are in a court of justice..
Pander: When Lord British saw that FOA had the potential to be a group as powerful as he
Wyrmschlacter: Excuse me counselor
Pander: He claimed that it would be JUST to bring them to JUSTICE.
Pander: Sure.
Wyrmschlacter: TO all of you, silence is needed in order for us to ensuer
Wyrmschlacter: that a fair trial occurs
Wyrmschlacter: If we cannot hear the counselors
Wyrmschlacter: then we may miss important facts
Wyrmschlacter: that could end up causing us to decide wrong
Wyrmschlacter: Please remain silent while court is in session
Wyrmschlacter: thank you
Wyrmschlacter: You may continue counselor
Pander: Let me define Justice a second, may I?
Pander: JUSTICE-
Pander: To bring revenge against one who has wronged others;
Pander: a positive connotation.
Pander: Who had FOA wronged for a FACT.
Pander: Where justice is correct in being issued?
Pander: the Hedgemaze.
Pander: The battle.
Pander: Many behind me were in this battle.
Pander: Many remember.
Pander: Who leveled the first blow?
Pander: Who showed up?
Pander: The FOA were practicing magicks to better themselves..
Pander: When warriors...
Pander: Warriors of "light" and of "British"
Pander: Charged them.
Pander: Attacking.
Pander: They were forced to defend, yet later were labelled murderers!
Pander: Is this justice?
Pander: NO!
Pander: If the "good"
Pander: Had not come...
Pander: Many would still be with us!
Pander: And
Pander: FOA would not be charged of these ridiculous crimes,
Pander: and we wouldn't be here,
Pander: We'd be enjoying stirred drinkes.
Pander: and having fun.
Pander: But no.
Pander: Warriors need battles,
Pander: And British needs his war.
Pander: The higher ups of British's court used these warriors as dupes.
Pander: Who believed they were fighting for Sosaria.
Pander: these poor souls fought for in actuality Lord British's personal war,
Pander: An unnessecary war, and an illegal one.
Pander: ONe based upon,
Pander: Hearsay, public opinion, and circumstance.
Pander: Are these teh new tools in Lord British's arsonal to destroy those opposed to his sens
Pander: of oligarchy?
Pander: Mayhaps theyare.
Pander: Now, Many remember Buccaneers den.
Pander: Many of these good people, were there with Junin Pince,
Pander: And Martoo Saul.
Pander: Many of these people...
Pander: Witneessed,
Pander: the horror.
Pander: Of a balron, summoned.
Pander: Not by FOA, though.
Pander: AGAINST FOA.
Pander: By those who wish to harm them!
Pander: Many lost their lives.
Wyrmschlacter: *yawns*
Pander: For such an ignoble cause.
Pander: I barely survived myself.
Pander: Then, we recovered the blackrocks,
Pander: Which are NOT contraband, as the prosecution would sayk,
Pander: But public property!
Pander: THese fraudulent, and unbased charges are what lead this trial.
Pander: to sum up
Pander: Remember,
Pander: This isn't about an evil group,
Pander: It's about a group with the power that could have overthrown evil Lord British.
Pander: And as such,
Adunaphel: hmm...
Pander: Lord British did every underhanded deed he could,
Pander: To frame FOA,
Pander: To make them criminals in their own coutnry!
Pander: The blackrocks could have been used for good!
Pander: But thanks to the people's ignorance, they will never be utilized.
Pander: Lord British and his men who in this trial attempt to sink their fangs into the FOA
Pander: Leader should realize,
Pander: The people dislike dictators.
Pander: This is a personal battle, not a legal one,
Pander: And as such,
Pander: all charges,
Pander: Should be
Pander: Dismissed.
Pander: I'm done.
Pander: Forgive the length
Wyrmschlacter: *nods*
Pander: You may cheer now.
Pander: I'm done.
Wyrmschlacter: Thank you gentlemen, please keep in mind that this is a trial of a man, not the
Wyrmschlacter: group called FOA
Aramina: *nods*
Wyrmschlacter: So please keep all your evidence relevant with that in mind
Sage Arthur: *nod*
Pander: Or those who he chose to do his tasks.
Wyrmschlacter: The prosecution shall begin
Wyrmschlacter: Prosecution call your first witness
Wyrmschlacter: if there are any
Sage Arthur: The prosecution respectfully asks that the trial be delayed until both sides are
Sage Arthur: able to prepare adequately
Wyrmschlacter: We will take a short recess
Wyrmschlacter: and tell you our decision on a delay
Wyrmschlacter: The counsel will come to the back room
Wyrmschlacter: recess

*recess*

Wyrmschlacter: Everyone will come to order
Wyrmschlacter: We have decided to allow a one week delay
Wyrmschlacter: You must have your cases prepared
Sage Arthur: Thank you your honors
Adunaphel: *nod*
Wyrmschlacter: if you do not have your cases prepared, we will be forced use the facts that we have
Wyrmschlacter: that have come from the newspapers
Pander: Objection that is but hearsay!
Wyrmschlacter: and others we have spoken too
Wyrmschlacter: 6:30 EST will be the beginning of the trial
Wyrmschlacter: If hearsay is all we have
Adunaphel: at the same time, yes nick
Wyrmschlacter: then that is what we shall be forced to use.
Wyrmschlacter: Delay of one week

*court is dismissed*

Pander: Well...
Pander: Next week it IS.
Sage Arthur: *nods*
Sage Arthur: Good luck!
Pander: Aye..
